Starting in Pudong, take in the view from the observation deck at the top of the Shanghai World Financial Center (492 meters tall).  If the elevator line is too long, try the one at the Jinmao Tower (421 meters) or  the silver and pink Pearl Tower (468 meters, but the highest observation level is 350 meters).  Cross under the Huangpu River via the garishly psychedelic Bund Sightseeing Tunnel to the elegance of the Art Deco Bund waterfront.  Walk down the neon artery that is Nanjing Road to People’s Park, one of many welcoming oasis’s in the teeming city.
   
Stop at the Shanghai Museum, a not to be missed highlight modeled after a cooking vessel, to see the beautifully presented collections of jade, bronze and ancient chops.  To get an idea of the vastness of Shanghai, go to the Urban Planning Building on the east side of the park.  Upstairs, seeing the scale model of the city, you’ll truly understand that Shanghai is an ever growing megalopolis.  Still, if you head down to the subway entrance below the building you’ll find a soup vendor who is as low tech and old world as you can get (delicious as well).
 
You can backtrack towards the river to stroll through the Yuyuan Gardens and Old Town Bazaar before making you way to Xintiandi, the festival mall area of redevelopment full of restaurants and trendy shops.   
Keep going west and enter the French Concession, an antidote to the towering new construction of Pudong and perhaps the loveliest part of Shanghai.  Have a custom qipao made at one of the niche shops or choose from a variety of cuisines in the area’s many restaurants. This is a neighborhood where elegant mansions now serve as boutique hotels, lane houses are filled with old established families and those who appreciate a smaller scale and quieter pace come to set down roots. Taikang Lanes, in the southeastern part of the French Concession, is a warren of unique small shops, artists’ galleries and eateries.  The atmosphere is communal and inviting.
 
Nanjing Road West is shoppers’  heaven if you’re the kind of shopper who prefers the convenience, variety and air conditioning of a mall.  Every major brand is here and ready to put your credit cards through boot camp.  At the end of the retail gauntlet is the Jing’An Temple.  The smoke from hundreds of burning sticks of incense envelopes you as you enter the site.  Worshipers choose from the tall, graceful, camphor wood statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, in the East Hall or the Jade Buddha (the largest sitting jade Buddha in the country) in the West Hall.  The Main Hall is being renovated, but you may be able to see the row of Buddha’s on the ground floor.  With expressions ranging from serene to exasperated, there is a Buddha to offer council for everyone.

This is the latest 2.4Ghz Walkera RAH-66 Comanche 5#4Q4, radio controlled helicopter! As you can see, it looks stunning, and is finished to a great level of detail and quality of finish.
